What makes the wind blow?

Wind blows because warm air moves away. Cool air comes to that spot. You feel it push your cheeks. It can wiggle leaves.

Wind blows because the sun warms some places more than others. Warm air lifts up, and cooler air moves in to take its place. That moving air is wind. It is like bath water when you swish your hand: water moves from one spot to another, and you can feel it push.

Wind is moving air. The sun heats Earth unevenly, so some air gets warmer and spreads out. Cooler, heavier air pushes in from nearby. Air pressure means how hard air is pushing, and air moves from places with higher pressure to lower pressure. Earth’s spin, hills, oceans, and buildings can bend or slow the wind. Fun fact: tiny bits of dust can ride winds all the way across an ocean.
