How does a computer work?

A computer works because its plug gives it power. When you tap keys or the mouse, it gets those taps. The screen changes pictures and words. It can make sounds too.

A computer works by using power from its cord or battery. When you press a key, click a mouse, or touch the screen, the computer follows little steps it was given. Then it changes what you see or hear. It is like a toy piano: you press one button, and a certain sound comes out.

A computer works by moving electricity through tiny switches. Each switch can be off or on, like no or yes. The CPU, or central processing unit, is the part that follows instructions. Memory holds what the computer is using right now, and storage keeps things for later. When you click, the CPU reads the click, follows steps, and tells the screen what to show. Fun fact: a computer can do billions of these tiny steps in one second.
