Why does it snow?

Snow falls because clouds get very cold. Tiny wet drops turn into soft flakes. They float down from the sky. The ground wears a white blanket.

Snow happens when a cloud is very cold. Water in the cloud turns into tiny ice pieces, and the pieces stick together as snowflakes. When they get heavy enough, they fall down. It is like crumbs falling from a cracker when you shake it, but snow falls softly from the sky.

Snow forms inside cold clouds. A cloud holds tiny bits of water. When the air is cold enough, the water freezes into ice crystals, which are tiny ice shapes. More crystals join together and make a snowflake. When the snowflake becomes too heavy for the air to hold up, it falls. Fun fact: every snowflake has six sides because of the way water molecules, the tiny pieces that make water, line up when they freeze.
