How do we get electricity in our homes?

Lights turn on because power comes in. It travels on tall wires outside. It comes through little wall holes. Then lamps, fans, and toys can work.

Electricity is made in special places, then sent along big wires to neighborhoods. Smaller wires bring it to your house. When you flip a switch, it lets the electricity flow to a light or machine. It is like water coming through pipes, but it moves through wires instead.

Electricity is made at power plants, wind turbines, solar panels, or dams. It travels through thick power lines at a very strong push called high voltage. Near homes, a transformer, which is a box that changes that push, makes it safer for house wires. Then wires bring it to outlets and switches. Fun fact: electricity moves through wires incredibly fast, so a lamp can turn on almost the moment you flip the switch.
