Why do we sneeze?

We sneeze because noses get tickly. Air pops out fast. It helps push yucky bits away. Achoo is loud and quick.

We sneeze when something tickles or bothers the inside of our nose, like dust, pepper, or a tiny bit of cold. Your body wants it out. So it makes a big puff of air blast from your nose and mouth. It is like blowing crumbs off a table, but your nose does the blowing.

A sneeze happens when tiny bits like dust, pollen, pepper, or cold germs bother the inside of your nose. Nerves are little message lines that tell your brain, “Something is tickling here!” Then your brain tells your chest, throat, and nose to push air out quickly. This blast helps clear your nose. Fun fact: sneeze droplets can fly out faster than a car on a city street.
